Qi Fake told reporters that navigation satellites are divided into regional and global types. China has previously launched the Beidou-1 satellite. Although it is regional, the navigation services it provides not only played a large role in the Wenchuan earthquake, but also used by neighboring countries in China. "Now we are going to establish Beidou No.2, which inherits the characteristics of Beidou No.1, China has independent intellectual property rights, and the accuracy is greatly improved," Qi Faxu said. It is reported that the Beidou satellite navigation system is composed of a space segment, a ground segment and a user segment. The space segment includes 5 geostationary satellites and 30 non-geostationary satellites. The ground segment includes several main control stations, injection stations and monitoring stations. For ground stations, the user segment includes Beidou user terminals and terminals compatible with other satellite navigation systems.
Qi Fachun introduced that the Beidou satellite navigation system has successfully launched 3 Beidou navigation satellites. According to the overall plan for system construction, around 2012, after launching more than 10 satellites, the system will first have the capabilities of positioning, navigation and timing, and short message communication services covering the Asia-Pacific region, that is, to solve regional problems; around 2020, Launching the geostationary orbit and 30 non-geostationary satellite networks, the Beidou satellite navigation system covering the whole world will be completely built.
