Do It Yourself To Upgrade Total Commander to beautify

Total Commander is a well-known file manager, and many users use it instead of the system's own resource manager. So some users according to their own habits, based on the original version of the increase in some function plug-ins, while the software for a certain landscaping operation, and then share it to the network for other users to use. When the landscaping version is no longer upgraded, how can you upgrade it to the latest version yourself?

Compare file version differences

We first download the latest installation package for this software from Total Commander's official website. After downloading, we can perform the installation in the usual way. Next we also need to download a file comparison software called Beyond Compare, through which you can analyze the difference between the latest version and the old version. Now run the Beyond Compare software, and then click on the “Folder Compare” button in the popup software window. A new folder comparison window will pop up (Figure 1).

Click the "Browse folder" button in the toolbar on the left side of the window to select the installation directory of the new TC version. Next, in the same way, click the "Browse folder" button in the toolbar on the right side of the window. In the pop-up dialog box, select the installation directory of the landscaping version that you normally use. After the selection is complete, we click on the "Show Differences" command in the "View" menu so that we can understand the differences between the new and old versions through different color differences (Figure 2). For example, red shows the new version of the file information, and purple shows the file information that is not in the one folder.

Upgrade to update landscaping

For any software, the three types of files, EXE, DLL, and SYS, are the most common and important ones, so we'll upgrade these three types of files first. Now click the "Filter" button in the toolbar. In the "include file" input box of the pop-up dialog box, enter *.exe, *.dll, and *.sys, respectively (Figure 3). After setting, click "OK" button, then the software will automatically filter out other formats. Now we select the red file in the left side of the window, then click the "Copy" button in the toolbar, in the pop-up dialog box, select the "left" option in the "select content". Then click the "Start" button in the lower right corner to copy the new version of the file into the previous landscaping folder (Figure 4).

Next, click the "Filter" button in the toolbar again. In the pop-up dialog box, cut the contents of the "Include File" input box to the "Exclude File" input box. Then click "OK" button, this will filter out the three types of files EXE, DLL and SYS, which in the dialog box shows which files need to be updated. So we follow the previous method to update these files. However, what needs special emphasis is that there is a file named WCMD_CHN.MNU in the LANGUAGE directory. This file should never be updated. Because this file is stored in the landscaping version of the configuration information, if the file is upgraded then the "beautification version" will no longer exist.
