Floods hit the hard disk to increase prices

According to sources from the hard disk industry, due to the impact of the devastating floods in Thailand on manufacturing plants, the cost of hard disk components will increase significantly, and the demand for ODM/OEM PC makers has also risen significantly. Hard disk prices have been unavoidable.

Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, Toshiba, and the factories in parts supply chain in Thailand were basically unable to stay out of the house, and the time required to resume normal production was longer than expected.

The rise of tablet computers originally made ODM/OEM PC makers' demand for hard drives unpretentious. However, due to concerns about the shortage of hard drives caused by floods, these manufacturers increased their orders and further worsened the situation.

It is expected that the global price hike of hard drives will start from November, and supply shortages are also likely to occur. As for the magnitude, duration, and shortage of price increases, we must also look at the subsequent impact of floods.

Of the global hard drive capacity, 70% are desktop and notebook ODMs/OEMs, and the remaining 30% are for consumer and business external hard drives.
