InstaGifNextStep is a very special Polaroid. It is very similar to the ordinary Polaroid regardless of its shape or usage. Users just press the shutter button and it will spit out a GIF. So, how is this device implemented?
In fact, InstaGif NextStep does not use photographic paper like regular Polaroid, but tape. The surface of the tape is a bit like Polaroid's white photo paper, but its essence is actually a mini-computer. After the tape is ejected, a GIF animation will gradually appear on the screen, just like waiting for a movie.
It is understood that this tape is made of Raspberry Pi and equipped with low-cost computer components such as LCD display, USB interface, home-made circuits and rechargeable batteries.
The interior of the camera also has a modified Raspberry Pi3 module, which has a display screen behind it as a viewfinder. Behind the wide-angle lens there is another Raspberry Pi camera module. The camera's internal Raspberry Pi can pass through the Wi-Fi network. Conduct communication.
When used, this special Polaroid can be recorded by the software developed by Abhishek Singh for 3 seconds after the shutter is pressed. This dynamic picture is then made into a GIF and compressed and sent to tape over the Wi-Fi network.
The InstaGifNextStep's body and tape case were all made by 3D printing. AbhishekSingh shared this project and said that he encountered some problems in the development process, including how to use the classic mechanism of Polaroid.
