At the VR Developer Conference (VRDC) in San Francisco, Rikard Steiber, president of HTC Viveport, was interviewed by foreign media and talked about HTC's progress on the construction of the Viveport platform and developer support.
Steiber said that over a year after the launch of Viveport, more than 2,000 applications have been launched today. He said that in the fourth quarter, the company's main goal was to give developers 100% profit and provide free promotions to support VR industry studios. HTC recognizes that VR is still in the stage of popularity. Although hardware and software prices have gradually declined and popularity has increased, for developers, creating a VR application is still a costly project. HTC hopes to adopt various measures to foster small and medium-sized development teams and jointly establish a good VR ecological environment.
After HTC sold the Pixel mobile phone R&D team to Google this year, it will increase its investment in VR. Steiber said that HTC can now invest a further US$1 billion in VR/AR services. The Vive all-in-one to be released at the end of the year also shows HTC's support for VR. The Vive One Opportunity has a Chinese-only version, but there is no difference between the hardware configuration and the international version. Both are equipped with 6DoF heads-up and 3DoF controllers.
