SanDisk: SSDs Will Rule Notebooks in One or Two Generations

SanDisk CEO Eli Harari told analysts at a recent financial conference call: "Solid-state drives are changing enterprise storage, and once more or two generations (solid-state drives) will be universally available in notebooks and other thin clients."

He also admitted that only a small part of the notebooks are equipped with SSDs, but as notebooks become lighter and thinner, PC makers can only choose solid-state drives more. For example, Apple’s newly released MacBook Air uses Toshiba's customized SSDs. According to Seagate, the share of SSDs in Apple Computers is now 3-5%, but SanDisk believes that it will increase rapidly in the future.

Eli Harari added: "We all know that the driving force that really promotes the universal adoption of flash memory and solid-state drives in such notebooks is a lower price, and I believe this is certain (will happen)."
