Everlight Electronics, a major LED packaging company, announced that it plans to set up a new company with its partners LG Display and Amtran Technology to develop LEDs for backlighting. The joint venture has a capital of 30 million US dollars and will establish a packaging plant in Wujiang City, Jiangsu Province, China, and plans to start mass production at the end of 2010.
The joint venture will enter a high-demand LED backlight market. Just last week, market analyst firm iSuppli reiterated that LED shortages for TV applications will continue into this year. iSuppli predicts that this year, shipments of large-size LED-backlit LCD panels will reach 2.767 billion units. By 2011, the shipments will increase to 476.60 million units. By 2014, shipments will reach 8.1790 billion units. .
