According to the latest news from Taiwan's "Economic Daily", TSMC once again "only swallowed" OEM orders for the future A11 processor (apparently for iPhone 7S or iPhone 8), and Samsung once again missed it.
The A11 processor will be manufactured for the first time using the 10nm FinFET process, and TSMC has successfully completed the tape, and it is expected to start small-scale trial production in the second quarter of 2017.
TSMC will start trial production of 10nm by the end of this year, and will start mass production and bring in revenue at the beginning of next year, and will rapidly expand production capacity.
In addition to Apple, MediaTek, HiSilicon, and Xilinx are also customers of TSMC's 10nm process.
TSMC has previously revealed that its first 10nm process product has a satisfactory yield. So far, three customers have completed the film.
It is rumored that TSMC has already received nearly two-thirds of the orders for A11 OEMs, based on the 10-nanometer FinFET process, which is expected to begin testing in the fourth quarter of this year. And Samsung can share the remaining orders, Apple will not put the eggs in a basket, just like in the past. The current A9 processor is manufactured by TSMC and Samsung, but TSMC's OEM has surpassed Samsung.
However, there are also rumors that the A10 chip is exclusively manufactured by TSMC, which is nothing new. A number of suppliers are good for Apple, which can promote competition and then price. At least we can understand that Samsung seems to be being marginalized by Apple, and Samsung has invested heavily in building factories to produce chips for Apple.

According to the production chain, Apple's second quarter has officially launched the verification of 10 nanometer silicon intellectual property and electronic design automation tools (EDA) for A11 application processor, and also launched A11 chip design project, which is expected to be completed before the end of this year. The wafer design is finalized. If all goes well, the first engineering test samples can be sent before the end of this year.
