Avago Technologies announced the launch of the industry’s smallest red, green, and blue (RGB) digital color sensor for various portable electronic products. Avago's new ADJD-S312-CR999 color sensor is small in size, only 3mm×3mm, and can accommodate up to 16 sensors on one key of a normal computer keyboard. This pocket-sized package paved the way for designers to develop smaller portable electronic products with color detection and measurement functions.
Avago's ADJD-S312-CR999 can be used with white LEDs for reflective color measurement, achieving excellent performance in various color sensing applications. The color sensor is small and exquisite. Typical applications include portable electronic laboratory instruments, industrial test equipment and portable readers. It is also suitable for portable consumer electronic products such as mobile phones, PDAs and handheld game consoles.
The color sensor provides all the necessary circuits and can be directly connected to the microcontroller through an ordinary two-wire serial interface. It uses a lead-free chip package of 3mm×3mm×0.77mm, and its volume and thickness are only 55% and 50% of similar competing products. In addition, the operating voltage of the sensor is 2.6V, which can significantly reduce the power consumption of portable products. In order to evaluate and design color sensors more easily, Avago also provides a complete "plug and play" development kit that can be connected to a personal computer via a USB port.
The ADJD-S312-CR999 product implements all functions in a very compact chip-level space and is supported by Avago's complete development kit, which greatly shortens the product design cycle. Its main features are as follows:
