LG accelerates acquisition of OLED TV market

LG Display displayed the world's first mass-produced 55-inch OLED TV at the CES Electronics Show held in the United States. LG Display CEO Han Xiangfan introduced its features, current mass production and future plans in detail, and once again demonstrated that it is led by OLED. The next generation shows market confidence.

The world's first 55-inch OLED TV, which LG Display and LG Electronics successfully mass-produced on January 2 this year, has been on the market. Han Xiangfan said: "The introduction of the world's first 55-inch OLED TV marks the beginning of the OLED era. LG Display will continue to establish a leading position in the OLED market and will target mass production in 2014 and finalize the next generation as soon as possible. Detailed plan for the production line."

Han Xiangfan said that at present, the OLED market belongs to the initial stage of development and the prices of high-end products are relatively high. It is believed that after 2-3 years, the price of OLED TVs will drop to a more market competitive level. Han Xiangfan said at the same time: "The target time for volume production of plastic OLEDs is set to be later in the second half of this year, and current product development is under way."

Speaking of LGDisplay’s differentiated technology that leads the market, Han Xiangfan said: “In the entire display industry, regardless of use and size, we are focusing on the development of Ultra HD products. In the large TV market, it is 4 times higher than Full HD resolution. Ultra HD products and full-HD products in the small and medium-sized display market will lead the market.” He also said: “LG Display's 55-inch, 65-inch, and 84-inch series of ultra-high-definition panels will lead the high-end TV market. At the same time, in the small-to-medium-sized LCD panel market such as smartphones and tablet PCs, LG Display's full HD AH-IPS products have also been favored by customers. LG Display is confident in this market.”

In addition, Han Xiangfan also revealed that LGDisplay will increase the proportion of critically acclaimed IPS products in monitors and notebook panels by more than twofold during 2013, further consolidating its leading position in the tablet and smartphone display markets.
