On June 4, 2014, TRW Automotive demonstrated an automatic braking system using the latest radar and camera at the Hockenheim track in Germany. The system works by detecting the obstacles in front of the vehicle based on the information of the millimeter-wave radar installed at the front of the vehicle and the monocular camera mounted inside the front window of the vehicle, and then automatically braking by ESC (anti-slip device). . In this demonstration, when the vehicle was driven at speeds of 40km/h and 60km/h, it was braked successfully before collision with the front obstacle.

The experimental vehicle in the demonstration used the popular "Passat" (picture). The millimeter-wave radar used is the "AC1000" in the 77GHz band and the "S-Cam3" in the monocular camera. It is equipped with the latest chip "eyeQ3" from Mobileye, the Netherlands.
AC1000 millimeter wave radar can not only detect pedestrians, bicycles and cars 180m away from the distance, but also automatically switch the detection angle according to the driving speed of the vehicle in the range of 25°~70°. The single-eye camera S-Cam3 equipped with eyeQ3 has a horizontal detection angle of 52°, a vertical of 39°, and a resolution of 1280×960 pixels. It can recognize pedestrians, bicycles and cars 130m away from a distance of 70m. Tianhe plans to mass-produce the millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera used in this demonstration from 2015.
