Toshiba launches new hybrid dual-layer sensor

Recently, Toshiba announced new sensor patents. The new sensor is different from the Bayer sensor and non-Bayer sensor, which has become a new hybrid double-layer sensor.

In order to better integrate the Bayer sensor and the non-Bayer sensor, Toshiba has adopted a two-layer design in the new sensor. That is, the first layer uses a Bayer sensor, which is divided into red and blue; the second layer is an independent green pixel layer.

In other words, the first layer of Toshiba's new sensor is the red and blue pixel layer designed by the traditional Bayer sensor, and the first layer is the green layer of foveon, which is the X3+ mosaic design.

In order to filter out red and blue, a magenta filter is used between the two layers to filter, ensuring that the second layer only receives green. The result is that the green layer, which affects the sensitivity of the sensor, is isolated, improving the green acquisition and ultimately improving the sensitometric performance of the new sensor.
