In most cases, virtual reality (VR) users are accustomed to experiencing shorter VR content, and a large number of VR experiences average in 2-3 hours. The two men from New York broke the Guinness Book of World Records and watched 50 hours of content continuously.
This attempt to break the world record began on Saturday, April 15th. Alejandro "AJ" Fragoso and Alex Christison used the Oculus Rift to prepare a large quantity of Red Bull and Starbucks coffee, as well as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. According to the Guinness regulations, they can have a five-minute break every hour.
Both Fragoso and Christison are app developers living in Brooklyn, and they did not receive any compensation in the challenge, despite the sponsor CyberLink providing an unlimited amount of snacks and drinks.
In 50 hours, two people watched various VR movies and 360-degree video.
Christison said: "The most difficult part is to live in the entire virtual environment and feel somewhat isolated."
The longest recorded VR video game marathon in the UK was only 25 hours long.
